Local taxation

Local taxation relates to taxes imposed by municipalities, provinces and regions.

Tax on derelict buildings

Many municipalities impose taxes on vacant or neglected buildings
An appeal before the administration and then before the court can be made to context such taxes.

Tax on vacant real estate

The Brussels-Capital region collects taxes or imposes administrative fines on owners of vacant properties. This is based on the consumption of water, gas and electricity. It is also takes into account the absence of registration in the population registers. These taxes and fines can also be challenged with the administrative authority or in court.

Due to the loss of income as a result of the absence of registration by the occupant of a property in the population registers and therefore the absence of collection by the municipalities of additional personal taxation, the municipalities collect taxes on second homes. The amount is sometimes exorbitant and not commensurate with the loss of income.
